Welcome!
Our fourth Anglo-German Colloquium is the first in-person event since December 2019. Just a few months afterwards, pandemic lockdowns brought great and many changes for all of us. We are very pleased to return to in-person papers, dialogue, and discussion.
First, our sincere and heartfelt thanks to Clare Hall for hosting this seminar and for all their support in making this event possible. A special thanks to all the staff behind the scenes. We are very happy to be back at Clare Hall, where our Anglo-German series started back in March 2019.
This edition of the Anglo-German Colloquium is in tribute to William St Clair (1937-2021). Many of our speakers were colleagues of William, or directly influenced by one of his influential texts, especially The Reading Nation in the Romantic Period. Mindful of some of the intriguing examinations of reading in William St Clair’s tome, we look forward to exploring Anglo-German reading and readers from 1750–1850.
We would also like to thank our speakers, some of whom travelled great distance to be with us in person. We are very much looking forward to your papers, hearing about your new research and discoveries, and discussion. And naturally, all of our fellow Anglo-German enthusiasts and colleagues joining us at Clare Hall or via Zoom.
Lastly, a few words about logistics:
1. copies for printing of the programme, directions to Richard Eden Suite, can be found and downloaded under downloads in the menubar.
2. Likewise, further essential information such as registering on EventBrite, is posted under Links in the menubar.
3. Recommended readings for each paper can be found immediately following the abstracts of the speaker.
Please feel free to explore the site and do not hesitate to offer suggestions or additions.
We very much look forward to welcoming you in person to Clare Hall soon.
